My recent handyman projects and examples
Local Handyman Services
I am regularly asked, ‘What kind of work can you do?’, my answer is that I can do all kinds of build and repair jobs around the home. To show the range of my skills, here are some examples of recent projects I have completed for previous clients. On this page, you can see how an initial idea can be transformed into a well built addition to your home.
The starting point for all this work, is usually a phone call or WhatsApp message asking for some help. You can also drop onto my Contact page to send a message.
A feature bedroom wall
A client rang to say that her son had seen something on the internet that he would like made for his room. She sent over a picture of his idea and asked if I could make something similar for his bedroom.
The project was fairly straightforward once we agreed on the layout. The whole wall was covered over with MDF sheet making sure that where sheets met, the join would be covered over with the raised panel detail. The diagonal raised sections were laid out to balance across the wall as well as land in a way so as not to be intruded upon by the bed and side furniture.
All the edges of the border and diagonal panels were rounded off to soften the finished appearance, then firmly fixed in place with glue and small brads. The final task was to fill the small holes left by the nailing ready for painting. The client had agreed that she would get the wall made to her son’s design, but that he would have to do the painting!
Roof repairs
Occasionally, I am asked to make minor roof repairs. From the safety of an access tower, I have completed a number of repairs.
Following the recent storms, an existing client rang to say that she had an issue where the ridge cap had blown off in the high winds, then as it fell, it hit the roof below and broke some tiles on the lower part of the roof.
I reseated a couple of the ridge caps and then replaced the damaged tiles.
Here I replaced a slate damaged during the installation of a solar panel array. Luckily the client had some saved slates which had been weathered down. When I repaired the damaged area with the ‘new’ tile, we managed to avoid the obvious ‘new slate’ look….
From aged to awesome
This old oak table had been used by the family for many years and had lost most of the finish and had a number of knocks and bruises. I used a cabinet scraper to bring the surface back to clean wood, then sanded with a fine grit sandpaper to get it ready for a new hard wearing finish.
Similar to the job above, instead this was a pine dining table also in need of similar treatment. You can see from the image on. the left, the amount of build up over the years that needed to be taken off. Once the work with a cabinet scraper was done, I went over the whole table with 320 grit sandpaper. This bought the surface of the table back to a finish ready for final treatment. In this case I used OSMO oil for a food safe hardwearing finish that leaves a beautiful finish.
